Welcome to Digantar Vidyalay
Digantar Vidyalaya began in 1978 in Jaipur as a small experimental school inspired by Neel Bagh School, Karnataka. Starting with two trained teachers and 20–25 children from diverse backgrounds, it became a space for innovative educational practice. In 1987, to expand its work in a rural setting, Digantar Shiksha Evam Khelkud Samiti was registered, and a new campus was established in Todi Ramjanipura village near Jaipur.
Rooted in the belief that education is every child’s right, Digantar provides free, fear-free, and punishment-free education without exams or pass–fail grades. Children learn in mixed-age groups through a rigorous yet non-threatening evaluation system, making Digantar widely recognized as a Change Maker School.

Success Stories
In 2005, Digantar Vidyalaya supported a group of girls who wished to study beyond 8th standard by providing space and teacher support, on the condition that they complete their 10th board exams. Of the 20 girls, 18 completed school up to 12th standard, and 11 pursued higher education—the first in their village to do so.
One girl overcame strong family opposition to complete her 12th exams with the help of her mother and Digantar teachers. Today, many Digantar students’ children study at the same school, and former students work as teachers, bankers, and lawyers.
For over a decade, Digantar has hosted education students and teachers to observe its free-paced pedagogy and Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation, helping them connect theory with practice.

Philosophy and Pedagogy
Rationality is central to human dignity, and education’s role is to nurture principled thought and action that enable a democratic society (Israel Scheffler). Digantar Vidyalaya draws inspiration from the Secondary Education Commission (1953), which emphasizes education for active, thoughtful citizenship in a democracy. Schools must develop clear thinking, intellectual integrity, openness to new ideas, and the ability to distinguish truth from propaganda. For over four decades, Digantar Vidyalaya has been committed to cultivating these qualities, empowering students to think independently and act with responsibility and dignity.
